Preparing and facing interviews is not an easy job. And in this article, we will cover the top three most asked questions by interviewers in any discussion. Before we start actual questions, let me tell you, there are three types of questions, i.e. technical, behavioural and analytical.

Technical –

If you are applying for I.T jobs, then technical questions are related to coding, programming, networking etc.

Analytical –

Analytical questions are asked to understand your problem-solving skills.

Behavioral –

Behavioral questions help to understand how you handled work situations in the past. According to our experience, 60 to 70 per cent of questions are behavioral.

Q1. tell me about yourself.

This is the most common question asked by the interviewer. This question is asked to know if you can communicate properly and what is most important for you. So don’t tell people about your life. Because the interviewer is not interested in your personal life, he is interested in identifying if you are the right person for the job or not.

How to answer

Summarize your experience and education in a single line and use adjectives to define your personality. Talk about your best work and your education and training. The way you answer this question can make or break your first impression.

Q.2 Why do you want this job?

We all want jobs because of money, right? That is what you are thinking but let me tell you what the interviewer thinks. Money is essential, but if this is an important reason, then you will leave for somewhere else for a better salary. So through this question interview wants to know why you want this job in particular.

How to answer

Tell interview what motivates you to work for this company. Don’t give general answers like “XYZ is a great company that’s why I want to work here”. Research about the company, check their website, follow their social media handles, talk to existing employees and figure what appeals most to you. For example, “XYZ’s reputation is certainly a factor. Also, a friend of mine who has been working here for the past two years has said that the company’s culture is encouraged to learn new things and rewards hard work.”

Q.3 What are your strengths and weaknesses?

They want to know two things.

  1. Do you know your strengths so that you have the focus to do what you do?
  2. Do you acknowledge your weaknesses so you can work on improving them?

Now don’t be too pompous ad say things like “I am too perfect” or “I work too hard” because nobody will believe your weakness. If you hide behind strength and present it as a weakness, you’ll become fake.

How to answer

Let’s start with strengths; anybody can say I am good at this, I am good at that anybody can say it. But to make it more believable, you need to say “how” or “why”.

Suppose being a quick learner is your strength, then you can answer this like “I am a quick learner, over the past three years I worked on three different technologies. As the team leader, I even had the opportunity to learn sales while talking with new customers. My motto in life is to learn new things every day.” some other strengths you can talk about are adaptability, hard-working, flexibility, persistence.

Coming to weaknesses, first think about the things you are not good at; it may be delegated to work, attention to details etc. now think about the initiatives you took to overcome that weakness. For example, “sometimes find it hard to manage my time and cut too close to the deadlines. To overcome this, I started using sticky notes that I stuck on my laptops. I even organize my calendar to achieve daily, weekly and long term tasks.”
